Que digo yo que ya tocaba volver por estos lares! Tras casi tres meses de absentismo bloggero me digno a postear de nuevo! La verdad es que hace tiempo que perdí las ganas de actualizar el blog y no es que las haya recuperado del todo, pero anyway, me apetecía volver y así lo he hecho!

De paso os hago saber que desde este tiempo de absentismo me he instalado en Londres y aquí sigo, viviendo una nueva experiencia! Como otros miles de spanish, me decidí por esta ciudad para improve my English, y como a muchos otros me está pasando lo de siempre, que paso más tiempo hablando castellano que inglés! Es que somos una plaga jeje Pero bueno, no pierdo la esperanza de volver con un poco más de level...

Y nada, en lo referente a la música, que es lo que aquí más interesa, de momento sólo he estado en dos jam sessions de blues, una en The Alley Cat (Denmark street), un sótano pequeñito y acogedor dónde vi por first time a la futura promesa del blues inglés! Un xavalín que no tendrá más de trece o catorce años y que canta y toca la guitarra que da gusto! La otra jam fue en Camden, en el Blues Kitchen, mucho más grande que el Alley Cat y con un ambiente de la ostia (al menos el domingo cuando fui a la jam). Y allí volví a ver al xavalín! También me sorprendió una chica que tocaba la flauta a lo Ian Anderson y versionaba a Jimi Hendrix junto a un guitarrista cachondísimo (gorro estilo ruso y gafas brillantes, un personaje digno de admirar). Nada, que lo que más me sorprendió es que por lo visto Ron Wood estuvo en el Kitchen hace unas semanas (creo que no tocó) pero estuvo entre el público haciéndose fotos! Si me lo encuentro prometo poner la foto!

Bueno, eso es todo por ahora!

Pues bien, se lo han montado bien The Gaslight Anthem en el último concierto del tour, que sino he entendido mal ha durado 18 meses??

Un concierto non stop, como a mí me gustan, dando caña y hablando en momentos puntuales, como antes de las baladas o para despedirse! (me gusta que hablen los músicos, pero hay veces que se pasan, hoy no ha sido el caso!). Grande el momento en que el cantante ha recitado una parte del Boots of Spanish Leather, igual de grande que la intro del concierto con ese solazo de saxo de Clarence en Jungleland o la versión que han tocado del State of love and trust de Pearl Jam (uouuuuu). Pues nada, me voy a sobar que no sé que coño hago escribiendo esto ahora mismo! Ahí va una prueba de como versionan a los Pearl Jam!

Tras el total abandono del blog reaparezco con una, para mí, gran noticia, otro año repito peregrinaje hacia Vitoria para acudir al festival de festivales, sí, el Azkena Rock Festival!!! Los tres pedazo cabeza de cartel del año pasado serán difíciles de superar pero en global este año el cartel también me parece muy interesante con grupos tan variados como Ozzy, Brian Setzer's, Reverend Horton, Avett Brothers, The Cult, Clutch, Band of Horses, Eels, Black Country Communinion, joder es que vaya cartel....y como no, Mr. Gregg Allman...vaya tela...y sí, Kyuss Lives! con temas como éste....tela tela!!! y Paul Weller y Arizona Baby y Cheap Trick y... etc etc etc

Se puede estar más o menos de acuerdo con la spanishrevolution pero lo que sí es totalmente indignante es la forma como la policía desalojó pl. Catalunya el viernes pasado con la excusa de limpiar la plaza. Otro tema es el hecho de que requisaran ordenadores, bafles, cables, y otras pertenencias sin ninguna explicación y luego lo dejaran todo en una especie de vertedero donde ayer los propietarios intentaban recuperar los restos que se podían utilizar. Bastante penosa la gestión de la policía y los políticos. Si hay una acampada en medio de tu ciudad y si tanta gente está disconforme será por algo, me parece bien el no hacer ni caso, siempre es una respuesta, pero me parece poco político y de nula diplomacia el enviar a una escuadra de policías a desalojar una plaza, aunque digan que la iban a limpiar. A ver, yo en mi casa cuando limpio no lo tiro todo a un vertedero y luego lo voy a buscar. Bueno, ya está, tenía que soltar un poco de indignación por algún lado.

Grande Eli "Paperboy" Reed ayer en la sala Apolo de Barcelona! Se presentó él solito, sin más compañía que su Gibson y sus gafas de sol. Pero quien necesita más compañía cuando tiene el talento de este chaval! My God! No soy un experto en la materia pero lo que vi me pareció una gran demostración de soul/rock/blues íntimo, directo, sincero y atrevido, muy atrevido!

La idea original era que saliera sentado al piano, pero el piano se estropeó y no quedó más remedio que pasar a la guitarra! Grandes temas, mucha destreza en la guitarra y una gran voz! Muy bonito el detalle que tuvo al versionar el Man in Me de Dylan para celebrar el cumpleaños del maestro! También hubo dos o tres temillas 100% blueseros y alguna baladilla! Y para rematarlo en el último tema salieron The Pepper Pots (que habían tocado de teloneros, con un gran concierto también) para cerrar la noche de forma triunfal!

Por cierto, Eli estaba en bcn porque estos días ha estado grabando un EP con The Pepper Pots en Girona. Se estrenó en el concierto de ayer al menos uno de los temas del EP y me recordó muchísimo al I Got the blues de los Stones (piel de gallina).

Tremendo tremendo disco! Qué os voy a decir que ya no sepáis de él! 10 canciones memorables que convierten, a mí parecer, a este álbum en una obra maestra de cabo a rabo! Entre ellas este Sister Luck que acompaña a las otras dos perlas del disco, que son Seeing Things y She Talks to Angels. Tremendo :)

Ayer por la noche me enteré de que Carlie Watts estaba tocando en la sala Luz de Gas de Barcelona y casi me da algo! No tenía ni idea de que el rolling stone estaba por estos lares tocando jazz! Por lo visto hoy y mañana repite en la misma sala. precios: 50 euros de pie, 90 euros sentado! Para los Rolling lo pago encantado, pero para ver a Watts tocando jazz, aunque tiene que ser una gran experiencia, me cuesta mucho más soltar 50 euros...

Tiene gracia porque a raíz de ésto, esta noche he soñado que el que venía en solitario no era Watts sino Warren Haynes! Y en el sueño no tardaba ni medio minuto en ir volando a la sala para comparar tickets. La entrada también costaba 50 euros jeje aunque me la querían vender a 70 (joder con el taquillero del sueño). Ah y la banda que llevaba Warren en mí sueño hablaban todos en catalán y no sabían a que hora empezaba el concierto, cuando diga Warren (eso es lo que me decían cuando les preguntaba).

Pues ya lo veis, para Warren sí que me gasto los euros pero no para Watts...que me está pasando!!!!

Cosmic Grass en el Marula 2-4-2011

Gran concierto de Cosmic Grass el sábado en el Marula! Confirmo las palabras de Tsi cuando hablaba de la banda hace muy pocos días en este post. Grandes músicos y lo que es más importante, músicos que sienten lo que tocan y se les nota que disfrutan tocando. Su estilo? Como bien dice Tsi, rock de raíces sería una forma de definir lo que hacen Cosmic Grass, con mucho soul y feeling! Al final del concierto saludé a Dani y Dio y me hice con una copia del directo Sunday evening music revelations, una joya de disco que como dice Tsi, no puede faltar en la discografía de todo amante de los Black Crowes, Allman Brothers y grupos por el estilo. El set del sábado fue una mezcla de temas propios con versiones de grupos como The Band, Free y Taj Mahal entre otros.

El sábado que viene, día 9 de Abril, vuelven a tocar, esta vez en La Resistencia (L'Hospitalet). Quienes tengáis oportunidad de ir a verlos vais a disfrutar de un gran concierto!!!

Gran tema de una banda llamada Rodamons, que ya pasó antes por el blog, que no sé si actualmente está en activo. Lo único que sé es que el batería estaba tocando con els Amics de les arts en los directos del grupo. Vuelvo a tener ordenador tras unos días de "muerte por virus cabrón" que ha pasado el pobre. Suerte de los colegas informáticos (gràcies Xavi) que en una tarde te ponen Linux y te solucionan el problema. Y al ponerme un poco al día he visto que ha habido debate sobre la paz en muchos blogs y que Roger Waters ha arrasado la península con su The Wall tour. Por mí parte tendré que conformarme con ver a The Australian Pink Floyd Show (si es que acabo yendo a su concierto)! Ya los vi hace poco y me encantaron! Admito que no soy fan de Pink Floyd, tan sólo conozco tres discos del grupo (discazos) así que con esta banda tributo tengo más que suficiente, además lo hacen de maravilla!

Old Crow Medicine Show (OCMS) have come full circle playing their own brand of American roots music with a rock and roll attitude. They met in New York in 1998 and hit the road, traveling city to city in a van and busking in the streets. They eventually settled for a year in North Carolina, where they ran into a bit of good fortune while playing in front of a local pharmacy to an impressed Doc Watson; the folk icon promptly scheduled the band to play at his MerleFest.

Soon after, OCMS relocated to Nashville and found themselves gracing the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, touring with Merle Haggard and regularly appearing on NPR’s A Prairie Home Companion. OCMS can attribute much of their success to their relentless touring schedule. Between headlining shows and countless festivals, the band is constantly on the road and thrives off of their fans and live shows. Vamos, una banda de colegas que no ha parado de tocar de ciudad en ciudad y que tuvo la suerte de que el músico Doc Watson les escuchara mientras tocaban en alguna calle de North Carolina y les invitara a tocar en su festival MerleFest (dedicado a su hijo muerto en 1985). Después de eso han seguido tocando en radios, girando con Merle Haggard y tocando sin parar que es como se han ganado su espacio en esto de la música! Pero es que los chiquillos tienen tablas of course!

Como muestra este tema, es el más famoso, tal vez no sea la mejor manera de presentarlos, pero yo les he conocido con este tema (gràcies Àlex) y he leído que la idea la pillaron de un outtake de Dylan del disco Pat Garret & Billy the Kid, dónde Dylan canta "Rock me mama" (aquí la prueba).

De momento he escuchado sus dos primeros discos y valen la pena! Sabor sureño 100%

Patti en el Palau

Ayer tuve la suerte de ir al concierto de Patti Smith en el Palau de la Música :) Comprando las entradas ayer mismo, aunque en todas partes dicen que estaban agotadas desde hace semanas!

Y que se puede decir de un concierto que empieza con Boots of spanish leather!!! Estuve por levantarme e irme cuando acabó la canción!

La de cosas que se me pasaron por la cabeza mientras estaba en lo más alto del Palau, sí, allí donde no se ve un pijo (en el gallinero vamos)...me imaginaba a los Allman Brothers tocando en ese precioso recinto y me alejaba cada vez más del concierto de Patti :) No en serio, también me vino a la cabeza un concierto de Dylan allí...ha tocado alguna vez en el Palau? supongo que sí...ni idea...bueno estoy deambulando mucho, pero es que ese lugar es espectacular para un buen concierto!

El de ayer, un trio acústico formado por Patti a las voces y la guitarra y un guitarra que supuestamente es el guitarrista de Patti desde hace no sé cuanto tiempo (sí, es que yo de Patti Smith conozco 5 temas contados) y un bajista/pianista cojonudo. Al final se unirían un chelista y un violinista (creo).

Pues eso, que era increíble poder "casi" escuchar el silencio en un concierto...acostumbrado a los conciertos de rock, eso fue algo que me gustó! Claro, si vas a escuchar música clásica sabes que la gente no se va a poner a chillar, pero en Patti Smith me esperaba mucho más ruido y al principio la gente estuvo muy calmada o mejor dicho, expectante (excepto cuando a alguien le daba por meter un berrido jeje). Luego ya la cosa se desenfrenó y sólo faltaba poner una batería y electrificar los instrumentos para que eso se convirtiera en un show de rock...pero no hizo falta, la verdad que quedó fenomenal tal como se presentó. Un trio acústico de puta madre! ahhh y la voz de Patti sublime, igual que sus poses, sus discursos (aunque no fueran muchos) y su humor! El principio del concierto fue casi igual a los de Bruce Springsteen: Estic molt contenta d'estar aquesta nit...etc (no le habrá pasado el discurso el bueno de Bruce...)

Qué sería de las bandas sin todo ese grupo de personas que les monta el escenario noche tras noche, que se ocupa de que los instrumentos estén en buen estado y suenen como tienen que sonar, esas personas que están atentos cada momento del show para solventar cualquier inconveniente que pueda afectar al concierto...

Esas personas son los Roadies, Road Crew o Pipas como se les conoce también por estas tierras! Aunque no todas las bandas tienen la suerte de tener un grupo de personas que les monte el stage cada noche, hay muchísimos grupos que se tienen que apañar ellos solos o como mucho tienen uno o dos pipas/colegas que les ayudan, pero vamos que lo de tener tu propio crew no es algo que se consiga facilmente!

Aquí dos ejemplos de Roadies cambiando la guitarra en medio del concierto cuando ésta se desafina o se le rompe una cuerda!

Aquí en el 2.45 se le peta la cuerda a Stevie y tras acabar el solo como si no hubiera pasado nada, el Roadie viene y la cambia la guitarra.

Como os dije, el viernes hubo el "último" concierto de Impromptu y como todas las otras veces que les he visto en directo fue un espectáculo! Un directo emocionante con canciones que todos sus fans nos sabemos de memoria y con otros temas que nunca antes les había escuchado en directo, porque eso es lo bueno de los directos, poder escuchar temas que sabes que vas a escuchar pero también novedades y versiones como esta que hicieron de Ben Harper y que ahora han colgado en su myspace! Brillante!

Con esta frase describía el señor Kimball lo que fueron los inicios de los Allman Brothers. Y no era para menos!

Imaginaros haber vivido el nacimiento de la banda, los conciertos en Fillmore East...como para no ponerlos por las nubes!

Y el diso de debut? No hay palabaras, es una jodida obra maestra de principio a fin!!!

Don't want you no more...éxtasis instrumental dónde blues, jazz, salsa?!, rock se unen para maravilla del oyente.

It's not my cross to bear...punteo de guitarra para abrir el tema y mojar las bragas de cualquiera con un poco de sensibilidad. Y luego la voz de Gregg...hace falta decir algo más?

Black hearted woman...uououou, acordes blueseros o más bien el acorde Jimi Hendrix marcando un tema perfecto para disfrutar en directo.

Trouble no more...buena definición de lo que para mí son los Allman Brothers. Slide guitar, riffs marca de la casa, base blueserarockera y como no Gregg, siempre Gregg.

Every hungry woman...otro tema marca de la casa. Guitarreo incesante.

Dreams...difícil de describir, mejor escuchar.

Ayer acabó la octava edición del festival inedit de Barcelona y este año, como el anterior, me he conformado con ir a ver una película de las muchas que había en cartel. La elegida: Lemmy, como no! Para todo amante del rock, de Motörhead y del humor esta peli es imprescindible! Lemmy ya hace tiempo que ha pasado a ser considerado uno de los dioses del rock, pero como demuestra la película, parece que nunca se la han subido los humos. Este hombre es un personaje como pocos! Anécdotas divertidas, momentos íntimos, un poco de historia y rock, mucho rock!

Lo que se encuentra uno por youtube! Lo que me pregunto es cómo no lo había visto antes!!!!!
